I’m not sure if this qualifies as reckless driving, because it was really a combination of factors that led this to be noteworthy. The slight speeding and tailgating is not noteworthy by itself. The fact that it was being done in a massive dump truck with no license plates in the rain makes it more sketchy. Throw in the oblivious/self righteous lane hog in the Tundra, and briefly the dick in the Camry (who cut me off quite close despite what it looks like), and this was just a fun situation all around.
I was doing my best to explain what I was seeing at the time, but I added annotations.

Damn trucks. I wish I had a dash cam for what I had to deal with last night. Two idiots, most likely drunk (that or something was terribly, incredibly broken with the steering/front suspension), in a an F650 gardening truck were holding up 3 lanes of traffic on I-80 in Berkeley. How were they doing this you ask? By swerving back and forth over the left 3 lanes, almost pinning 2 cars I saw against the concrete barrier and almost taking me out twice as I tried to pass. Finally had to go to the furthest right lane to get by “safely”.
Bonus points for racking Fleetwood

That’s the kind of shit you call the cops on.

I didn’t only because I saw two other people doing that. Normally i would have had no problem getting their asses thrown in jail

Generally, on trucks that pull trailers, the trailer plate goes on the rear of the trailer and the truck plate goes on the front of the power vehicle.

Sheeeit, thats normal everyday driving around here.
It sucks. :(

Neither the back of the dump truck (which is often just a standalone truck) nor the back of the trailer had any plate. I do not recall if there was one on the front.

Where is this horrible location where that is normal driving? I’ve only ever been in situation like that twice in the year I’ve been driving.

Minnesota. People here go too fast, wont yield, wont signal, cut each other off, wont ease off your tail and let you turn or enter a driveway slowly... etc. etc. Its kind of a nightmare. They’ll also stay off the brakes and use the shoulder to pass you if you’ve stopped to make a left turn or something.

Sadly all too common around here. I saw the exact same thing happen to someone else right in front of me last year.

I didn’t watch the whole thing but I wonder if they were tailgating to reduce drag and save on fuel.

I’m not entirely sure an A8 or an Impala reduces drag on a big rig by any significant amount.

It might, actually. Even a .5mpg increase could be significant with single digit mpg. Is it enough that they would actively seek or risk it though, is a tougher question.

I can tell you what I think.
I don’t care if they save thousands of dollars and are only able to put food on the table by tailgating me in their big rig to save gas. If I have to slam on the brakes for any reason, however unlikely, they will flatten me.
